Park Mark Safer Parking Award – Why It’s So Important

Always look out for a Park Mark Safer Parking Award when looking at Manchester Airport car parks. A Police Crime Prevention Initiative designed to reduce crime and the fear of crime in car parks across the UK, the Park Mark Safer Parking Award is given only to car parks that meet certain security, maintenance, and management standards. All the Manchester airport car parks that you can book through APH have attained the award, including our own APH Car Park.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best parking at Manchester Airport?
If you are looking for the most economical option, then look at off-airport facilities, such as our own APH Car Park. It’s easy to find, highly reviewed, and just 10 minutes by shuttle bus to the terminals. If you want to drive straight to the terminal, then look at Meet & Greet services, which offer the ultimate in convenience.

What is the cheapest way to park at Manchester Airport?
You’ll find a variety of ways to park at Manchester Airport, either off-airport or on-airport, as well as Meet & Greet services. Off-airport is usually the best option for cheap Manchester Airport parking, for example, our APH Car Park or APH Self Park

How much does it cost to park your car at Manchester Airport?
Prices for Manchester Airport car parks fluctuate according to availability and the season of travel. Peak times, such as in summer, can be more expensive than other times of the year. We recommend you book early, as rates often increase as spaces fill up. Also look for off-airport car parks, which include free shuttle transfers to the terminal and are usually the most economical.

How much is the long stay car park at Manchester Airport?
Prices vary by season for long stay parking at Manchester Airport, with the summer months being peak travel time. As an approximation, you can expect to pay anywhere from £45 to £80 in the winter and £100 to £130 in the summer for a weeks parking.

Is it cheaper to book manchester airport parking online?
We recommend booking online in advance to secure the best rates and online discounts.
Sign up to the APH newsletter to receive notification of discounts for Manchester Airport parking and hotels.

What happens if I arrive earlier or later than planned?
The majority of car parks are equipped to handle early arrivals, and if you anticipate being delayed in collecting your car, we advise that you contact the car park as soon as possible. Please note that any fees for late returns are determined by the car park.

Can I book a hotel and parking package at Manchester Airport?
Certainly! To find great value Manchester Airport hotel and parking packages, navigate to the Manchester Hotel & Parking page, enter your dates, and browse our selection.

Can I amend my Manchester Airport parking booking?
If you need to modify the details of your booking, it may be possible to do so with APH. To request changes, please contact our customer services team.

Is disabled parking free at Manchester Airport?
Manchester Airport does not provide free Blue Badge parking. However, many car parks offer facilities to accommodate a diverse range of needs, so we recommend reviewing the car park's information prior to making a reservation. APH Manchester provides disabled facilities for Blue Badge holders.

Can you just turn up and park at Manchester Airport?
Yes, you can, but pre-booked parking is almost always cheaper. Spaces tend to fill up and, as supply diminishes, prices tend to increase. If convenience is a priority, then look at our Meet & Greet services, where they collect your car from you at the terminal and drive it to a secure parking compound, while you walk to the check-in desks.

Manchester Airport Guide

History of Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport celebrated its 80th birthday in 2018. The control tower and large hangar that was built at what was then Barton Aerodrome, in 1930, still stand today, in what is now City Airport. With Barton being considered unsuitable for larger aircraft, a new airport was built at Ringway, around nine miles to the south of the city, which opened in 1938.

During the Second World War, Ringway served as an aircraft manufacturing centre and training centre and facilities were enhanced with three new runways and ten new hangars.

By 1952, the airport at Ringway had begun operating 24 hours a day, handling 163,000 passengers a year, and 1953 saw the commencement of the first-ever scheduled service from Manchester to New York, operated by Sabena. In 1962, a new £2.7 million state-of-the-art terminal was opened – the first in Europe to incorporate the “pier” system, allowing passengers to remain under cover until ready to board their flight. In 1974, a new inter-continental pier featured even more innovations, such as air-conditioning, travellators and air bridges connecting passengers directly to the aircraft.

By 1978, Manchester had 15 scheduled airlines operating flights to 37 destinations across the UK, Europe and North America, and 5,000 staff members were employed at the airport by over 100 companies. Annual passenger numbers reached 15 million in 1995. A second runway was added in 2001 and, in 2017, the airport recorded its busiest day ever, with over 107,000 passengers passing through its three terminals.

Terminals

Manchester has three terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 are a two-minute walk from each other, whereas Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 takes between five and 15 minutes via moving walkways within the buildings.

You must follow the instructions from your airline for check-in times for your particular flight but, as a rule, you should be checked in and ready to go through security at least two hours before your flight departs.

For international flights, check-in normally opens four hours prior to departure.

For European flights, check-in normally opens three hours prior to departure.

For domestic flights, check-in normally opens two hours prior to departure.

Self-service check-in

Located throughout the terminals, Manchester Airport’s lime green self-service check-in kiosks help you to avoid any queues at the check-in desks. Follow the instructions on the screen to print your boarding passes. Any checked-in baggage must be taken to the nearby bag drop-off point. If you have only hand luggage you can proceed directly to security control.

Online check-in

If you have checked in online before coming to the airport, you just need to drop your checked-in luggage at the bag drop-off, located in the check-in area, and proceed to security control. Skip the bag drop-off if you have only hand luggage.

Express check-in

Located within the departures area of all three terminals, the self-service Express check-in kiosks are quick and easy to use with touch screens:

1.    Enter your passport details, credit card or e-ticket number for identification.

2.    Follow the instructions on the screen to confirm your booking.

3.    Print and collect your boarding pass.

4.    If you have bags to drop off, follow the signs to one of the bag-drop desks.

5.    Proceed to security control.
