Is There Free Drop-Off at Luton Airport?
Yes. You can drop someone off at Luton Airport without paying by using the Long Stay Car Park. Parking is free for up to two hours, making it particularly useful if you don’t want to pay the £7 Drop Off & Pick Up Zone charge.
Long Stay Car Park – Free for Up to 2 Hours
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Postcode | LU2 9NW |
| Up to 2 hours | FREE |
| 2–3 hours | £7.00 |
| First day | £35.00 |
| Shuttle | Free, 24/7, approx. every 20 minutes |
| Transfer time | Approx. 10 minutes |
On entry, take a ticket and park as normal. The free shuttle bus takes around 10 minutes to reach the terminal and runs approximately every 20 minutes, 24 hours a day. For the return journey, buses to Long Stay leave from Bus Bay B outside the terminal.
The Long Stay Car Park is also particularly useful for pick-ups because the two-hour free period gives you time to wait if a flight or baggage collection is delayed.
Mid Stay Car Park
The Mid Stay Car Park is around a 10-minute walk from the terminal but is not a free drop-off option. The current on-the-day charge is £15 for up to one hour. For most quick drop-offs, either the £7 Drop Off & Pick Up Zone or free Long Stay option offers better value.

Luton Airport Pick-Up Charges
The same main areas can be used for both dropping off and picking up passengers at Luton Airport. However, because flight arrivals and baggage collection can be unpredictable, the free Long Stay Car Park is often the best place to wait.
| Pick-up option | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Long Stay | FREE up to 2 hrs | Waiting for arrivals |
| Drop Off & Pick Up Zone | £7 for 10 mins | Passenger already ready |
| Terminal Car Park 1 | £15 up to 30 mins | Meeting someone inside arrivals |
Best Way to Pick Someone Up at Luton Airport
If you’re collecting someone, ask them to message you once they have cleared passport control and baggage reclaim. You can wait in Long Stay for up to two hours free and either collect them there after they take the free shuttle from Bus Bay B, or move to the Drop Off & Pick Up Zone once they are ready.
Avoid entering the £7 zone while your passenger is still inside the terminal. After the first 10 minutes, the cost increases by £1 for every additional minute.
Blue Badge Drop-Off at Luton Airport
There is no Blue Badge discount in the main Drop Off & Pick Up Zone, so the normal £7 charge applies. Instead, London Luton Airport recommends Terminal Car Park 1 or 2 for Blue Badge holders and passengers with pre-booked Assisted Travel.
Blue Badge holders and passengers with proof of booked Assisted Travel can receive 30 minutes free in Terminal Car Parks 1 and 2 after validating their parking ticket.

My minibus dropped a passenger off today at Luton, I have an account for Heathrow and London, am I covered for Luton ? or do I have to pay online.Gareth Jones
Since you currently have an account for Heathrow and London, coverage for Luton is not automatically included. You’ll need to pay online for any journeys to Luton.
I forgot to pay the drop off charge on the day. Can I pay it after 4 days?
How to pay the drop-off charges at the drop-off zone? I haven’t dropped off any one so far.
You can pay online.

The drop off / pick up zone is now operating out of the Mid-stay car park. There is a short 10-minute walk to the terminal building or there is shuttle bus operating between the mid stay car park and the terminal building (Bus Bay A).
Delays are expected so please drop passengers off promptly and exit as soon as possible. No charges are in place for this service.”
Due to a recent fire incident at the airport, Luton Airport drop off arrangements are changing frequently. Please visit the following link for the latest information: https://www.london-luton.co.uk/to-and-from-lla/want-to-drop-off-as-close-as-possible
What’s the situation regarding charges after the fire? I dropped off today (20th Oct) and it was pretty chaotic, with the traffic directions and queuing, There were cones cross the temporary drop-off zone for no apparent reason, so i was forced to carry on round into what seemed to be a designated pick-up area, which appeared to be part of a normal car park and I was told to drop off anywhere there was a space but not on the road. The person I spoke to didn’t know the reaosn for the signed drop-off area being blocked by cones and asked ME why! How would I know? No sign of any payment method, so am I to presume that any charges are waived at present? I appreciate there are difficulties after the fire but there is certainly a lot of time wasted at present stuck in a lengthy queue.
Luton Airport’s latest update on drop offs is as follows:
I have a pick up today from pick and drop off zone
i always make sure my passenger are at pick up zone
So they was there waiting for me in zone D hardly we took us 2 minutes to pick them up and drove off so when I came at barrier I didn’t notice how much I have been charged I came home and saw my bank account and noticed I have charged £8 (pounds)
NB. Your FAQ question 1 “ How much does it cost etc” gives a wrong answer !
Reading Luton Airports charges it says… # £5 for up to 10 mins & then £1/ minute thereafter ! #
Very confusing !!
You are correct. The Luton Airport drop-off charge is £5 for up to 10 minutes, and an additional £1 for each subsequent minute.
