New road plans have been revealed to help take the pressure off the Dartford Crossing and surrounding roads.
The chosen option ‘C’ will see a new road link the M25, near North Ockendon, Essex, with the A2 near Shorne, Kent.
The plans also showed a new road will cross the A13 Orsett, connecting land east of Tilbury to land east of Gravesend. Further, a new road will then take traffic to the A2, near Thong, via the Western Southern Link.
The decision came after a public consultation, started in January last year, resulted in ‘C’ as the favoured route.
The route will offer improved journey times, network reliability and economic benefits. It will also;
- Create more than 70% additional capacity across the Thames east of London
- Offer significant transport benefits including more reliable journeys
- Offer a modern, reliable alternative crossing east of London – relieving pressure and congestion on existing crossings.
