Are airport lounges really too expensive? We reveal the true cost and how you can save money in luxury

More than 55 per cent of British travellers ‘assume’ airport lounges are too expensive to use – despite many venues offering potential savings compared with waiting in the public departure area.

This figure compares with findings that reveal just 32 per cent of passengers questioned had ever actually used one of the lounges found in terminals at all major airports across the UK and Europe.

Lounges such as The Yorkshire Premier Lounge at Leeds Bradford Airport are perfect for adults and kids - as you can see

Is it really to expensive to book space in a relaxing airport lounge? We find out

Along with the assumption of lounges being too costly, the Airport Parking and Hotels survey of more than 1,000 travellers, revealed 33 per cent had not even thought about booking space in a lounge.

Here we take a look at what airport lounges offer, who they’re for and how the belief they’re too costly to use could be wide of the mark…

How much does it cost to use an airport lounge?

The APH.com survey found most travellers ‘assumed’ that booking space in an airport lounge would be too costly, but with prices from £15 to around £35, the benefits included can actually mean you pay no more than if you’d remained in

the public departure lounge. Here’s a quick look at how you can wait to board in a quiet, comfortable lounge while also saving cash on items such as food, drink and WiFi.

Are airport lounges for premium class travellers, only?

Some large airlines have private lounges, but these are separate to public facilities offered at airports. Public lounges are open to all passengers regardless of airline or cabin class – but they will have to pay to get in, of course.

How about children – can I take the kids in?

Some people assume that lounges are stuffy men-only club where kids should not be heard or seen… but that’s not the case in the majority. Most lounges welcome children with many offering games rooms, cinemas and play areas. However, Exeter Airport’s Executive Lounge won’t admit kids below 12 years old – so check before you travel.

Infants below two years old will usually gain free entry to all lounges. For those aged two and over, Escape Lounges will charge full price, whereas No1 Lounge offers concessions up to the age of 11.
