Airport parking for motorbikes… is it possible to park my bike at the airport for the duration of my trip? – Last updated: June 2026

You ride to work every day. You know exactly how to dodge the traffic, find a spot, and get moving faster than anyone in a car. So why should getting to the airport be any different?

The answer is: it doesn’t have to be. With around 1.4 million motorbikes registered on UK roads, plenty of riders fly regularly – and most major UK airports do make provision for bikes. Some offer completely free dedicated bays. Others charge half the car rate. A handful charge full car prices. And one doesn’t accept motorbikes at all.

This guide covers every major UK airport, tells you exactly where to park, what it costs, whether you can pre-book, and what to watch out for. We’ve also added the answers to the questions riders actually ask – like why off-airport car parks won’t take your bike, and how secure your motorcycle will actually be while you’re away.

Riding to the Airport? Do This First

  1. Check the table below to find your airport and see whether parking is free, discounted or full price
  2. Note whether pre-booking is required – some airports need you to call ahead or reserve online, others are turn-up-and-park
  3. Find the specific parking area for bikes at your airport – parking in a standard car bay could mean paying the full car rate
  4. Bring your own security – most airport motorbike bays do not have anchor points, so bring a lock and consider a cover
  5. Call ahead if in doubt – policies change, and a quick call to the airport parking team takes two minutes

Airport-by-Airport Guide: Motorbike Parking at Every UK Airport

Below you’ll find everything you need to know for each airport – exact parking locations, costs, pre-booking instructions and real-world tips. Policies can change, so if you’re planning a trip, call ahead to confirm before you set off.

Gatwick Airport – Motorbike Parking

Gatwick provides free motorbike parking at both the South Terminal and North Terminal. In each of the short-stay car parks, look for yellow hatched bays along the sides of each parking level – these are the designated motorcycle areas.

Real situation: You’re flying from Gatwick’s South Terminal on a 6am Ryanair flight. You ride down the night before, park in the yellow hatched bays in the Short Stay car park, and walk across to check in. Free parking, no booking required, right next to the terminal. Just make sure you’re in the hatched bays – not a standard space.

Heathrow Airport – Motorbike Parking

Heathrow has dedicated motorbike bays at all four terminals – and they’re all free. The exact location differs by terminal, so check before you go:

Aberdeen Airport – Motorbike Parking

Aberdeen Airport has around 20 designated motorcycle spaces in the short-stay car park, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Birmingham Airport – Motorbike Parking

Birmingham Airport has a dedicated motorcycle area within Car Park 2, close to the terminal. Parking here is free – but only if you use the correct area.

Bournemouth Airport – Motorbike Parking

Bournemouth Airport offers motorbike parking in its on-airport car park at a 50% discount compared to the standard car rate.

Bristol Airport – Motorbike Parking

Bristol Airport provides free dedicated motorbike bays opposite the main administration building. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Cardiff Airport – Motorbike Parking

Cardiff Airport has free motorcycle parking near the exits of both the Short Stay car park and Long Stay 2 car park.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport – Motorbike Parking

Important note: Doncaster Sheffield Airport (Robin Hood Airport) has been closed to commercial passenger flights since late 2022. The information below reflects the policy when it was operational, and is included for completeness should operations resume in future.

When operational, the airport provided free motorcycle parking in both Long Stay and Short Stay car parks. Riders were advised to use floodlit bays where possible for better security. No pre-booking was required for bikes.

Teesside International Airport – Motorbike Parking

Teesside International (formerly Durham Tees Valley Airport) does not have dedicated motorcycle bays. Motorbikes are treated exactly the same as cars – you book a standard space and pay the standard rate.

East Midlands Airport – Motorbike Parking

East Midlands Airport offers discounted motorcycle parking at 50% of the standard car rate in its official on-site car parks.

Real situation: A week’s car parking at East Midlands costs around £70. On your motorbike, that drops to £35 – a significant saving for a solo traveller heading on a business trip with hand luggage only. Pre-book to lock in the discount and guarantee your space.

Edinburgh Airport – Motorbike Parking

Edinburgh Airport offers motorbike parking in the Terminal Surface car park – directly adjacent to the terminal building, which is convenient. However, there is no discount for bikes here.

Exeter Airport – Motorbike Parking

Exeter Airport allows motorbikes in the hatched area near the advertising hoarding as you enter Car Park 1. It’s a smaller, more informal arrangement than at major airports, but it works well and it’s free.

Glasgow Airport – Motorbike Parking

Glasgow Airport accommodates motorbikes in Car Park 2. Bikes are accepted but are charged at the same rate as cars – there is no discount.

Leeds Bradford Airport – Motorbike Parking

Leeds Bradford Airport does not have separate motorbike bays. Bikes park in standard car spaces across the airport’s car parks. No discount applies.

Liverpool Airport – Motorbike Parking

Liverpool John Lennon Airport provides free motorbike parking, but in a slightly unusual location – the Express Drop-Off zone, which has a small number of bays allocated specifically for motorcycles.

Real situation: You’re flying from Liverpool for a long weekend. You arrive, head to the Express Drop-Off zone, and find the motorcycle bays – but there are only a handful of them and two are already taken. It’s free, but it’s tight. For longer trips in summer, arrive earlier than you think you need to.

Luton Airport – Motorbike Parking

London Luton Airport offers one of the most rider-friendly policies of any UK airport – free motorbike parking for up to 21 days in the designated motorcycle bays in the Mid Term Car Park.

Manchester Airport – Motorbike Parking

Manchester Airport is one of the best options for motorbike riders – you can park in covered multi-storey car parks at all three terminals, and you get a 50% discount on the standard car rate. The catch: you must book by phone, not online.

Real situation: You’re flying from Manchester Terminal 2 for 10 days. Standard car parking might cost £120 for that duration. On your motorbike, booked by phone, that drops to £60 – and your bike is in a covered multi-storey with CCTV. One phone call saves you £60 and gets you better security than most free bike bays at other airports.

Newcastle Airport – Motorbike Parking

Newcastle Airport allows motorbikes to use the Long Stay car parks in standard car spaces. There are no dedicated motorbike bays and no discount.

Prestwick Airport – Motorbike Parking

Glasgow Prestwick Airport is the one UK airport that does not accept motorbikes in its parking facilities at all.

Southampton Airport – Motorbike Parking

Southampton Airport has a dedicated motorcycle area on the ground floor of the Short Stay car park, right next to the terminal – one of the most conveniently located bike areas at any regional airport.

Southend Airport – Motorbike Parking

London Southend Airport provides free designated motorbike bays in Long Stay Car Park 3. Given the airport’s manageable size, availability is generally good.

Stansted Airport – Motorbike Parking

London Stansted Airport welcomes motorbikes in two specific zones and offers a 50% discount on standard car rates. Bikes can park in the Orange Zone of the Short Stay car park or the Q Zone of the Long Stay car park.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do people really ride motorbikes to the airport?

More than you might think. Solo travellers and business flyers on short trips often travel with just a carry-on bag, making a motorbike entirely practical. Cutting through rush-hour traffic also makes it faster door-to-door than a car in many cities. It’s not ideal for a two-week family holiday with luggage – but for a long weekend or a business trip with hand luggage, riding to the airport makes complete sense.

Why can’t I use an off-airport car park for my motorbike?

Off-airport car parks – the kind that offer Park and Ride transfers to the terminal – almost never accept motorbikes. The reason is straightforward: these operators valet-park or reposition vehicles to maximise space, and their staff are trained to drive cars, not ride motorcycles. Moving your bike around a car park is a specialist task that most operators simply aren’t set up for. For safety and insurance reasons, off-site operators decline motorbikes as a standard policy. Your only realistic option is the airport’s own on-site parking.

Where exactly should I park my motorbike at the airport?

Use the airport’s own on-site parking – specifically the designated motorbike areas described in the airport-by-airport guide above. Do not park in a standard car bay unless the airport explicitly tells you to (Leeds Bradford and Newcastle being examples where this is necessary). Parking in the wrong spot risks either a full car rate charge or your bike being moved. When you arrive, follow motorbike parking signs or ask a parking attendant to direct you.

Is motorbike parking cheaper than car parking at airports?

Often yes – but not always. Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, Bristol, Cardiff, Southampton, Southend, Exeter, Aberdeen and Liverpool all offer free motorbike parking in designated areas. Manchester, Stansted, East Midlands and Bournemouth charge 50% of the car rate. Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds Bradford and Teesside charge the full car rate with no discount. And Prestwick doesn’t accept motorbikes at all. The table at the top of this guide shows the cost at every airport at a glance.

Will my motorbike be secure in airport parking while I’m away?

Official airport car parks have CCTV, barriers and security patrols – but dedicated motorbike bays are not always as well monitored as the main car areas. Many motorbike zones are at the edges of car parks or in open areas without cover or fixed anchor points. Bring a high-quality disc lock or chain lock, and consider a cover to deter opportunistic theft and protect against the elements. Manchester is a notable exception – covered multi-storey parking with CCTV throughout. For most other airports, treat the security as you would any public motorbike bay and secure your bike accordingly.

What should I do if the motorbike bays are full when I arrive?

If the dedicated motorcycle bays are full, do not park in a standard car space without checking first – you could be charged the full car rate. Speak to a parking attendant or contact the airport’s parking team before leaving your bike anywhere unofficial. At smaller airports with limited bike spaces (Aberdeen has around 20, Liverpool has even fewer), arriving earlier than planned during busy periods is the safest approach.

Do I need to leave my keys with anyone?

No. Unlike off-airport valet parking where you hand over your keys, on-airport motorbike bays are self-park. You ride in, lock up, and take your keys with you. Nobody will move or touch your bike while you’re away – which is one of the practical advantages of airport motorbike parking over car parking at some off-site operators.

What gear should I leave with my bike?

Most riders leave their helmet and jacket locked to the bike or stowed under a cover. A disc-mounted helmet lock or a cable threaded through your helmet and jacket is a sensible precaution. A waterproof cover protects both your gear and the bike from weather. Do not leave anything of real value attached to the bike – keep valuables in your carry-on or checked luggage.
