Keeping your car keys when you park at Heathrow gives you complete peace of mind: you park, lock up, and know your vehicle will stay exactly where you left it while you’re away. But not every Heathrow car park offers this – and understanding why helps you make a more informed choice.
This guide covers every car park available to book through APH at Heathrow, clearly showing whether you keep your keys, the service type, and whether it holds a police-approved IAPA security award.

Park & Ride vs Meet & Greet: key differences
The two main parking types at Heathrow work quite differently – and which one suits you depends on whether you prioritise control, convenience, or cost.
🅿 Park & Ride
- You drive to a designated off- or on-airport car park
- Park and lock your car yourself
- Keep your keys with you the entire time
- Take a short shuttle bus to your terminal (10–20 min)
- Usually the most budget-friendly option
- Allow an extra 20–30 minutes for the transfer
Best for: travellers who want full control of their vehicle and maximum value for longer trips.
Most convenient
🚗 Meet & Greet
- Drive directly to your terminal drop-off zone
- A uniformed driver meets you and takes your keys
- Your car is parked in a secure compound
- Walk straight to departures – no shuttle needed
- On return, your car is delivered back to the terminal
- Ideal for families, business travellers, heavy luggage
Best for: anyone who wants the fastest, smoothest start to their journey.
Note on key retention: At Park & Ride services you keep your keys and your vehicle stays exactly where you parked it. At almost all Meet & Greet services you hand over your keys so the driver can manoeuvre your vehicle into a secure compound. The two exceptions available through APH are MBW Rapid Charge and MBW Meet & Greet Terminal 4, which are Meet & Greet services that allow you to retain your keys.
What is IAPA accreditation?
The IAPA (International Airport Parking Association) Park Mark award is a police-approved security accreditation. Car parks that hold it have been independently assessed against crime prevention, safety, and management criteria – going beyond basic CCTV to include regular security patrols, adequate lighting, controlled access, and active incident management.
What it covers
Regular security patrols, controlled vehicle access, staff training, and active crime prevention measures.
Who awards it
Assessed and issued by police crime prevention officers – not self-certified by the operator.
Non-IAPA = unsafe?
Not necessarily. Many non-IAPA car parks have CCTV, fencing, and professional staff. IAPA is an additional verification layer.
APH & IAPA
APH holds IAPA membership and only partners with vetted, professional parking operators.
How to choose the right option for your trip
There’s no single “best” option – the right choice depends on your priorities. Use this quick decision guide:
| Your priority | Best choice | Why |
| Keep my keys & full control | Park & Ride (key retention) | You park and lock – car doesn’t move until you return |
| Speed & convenience | Meet & Greet | No shuttle, no searching – drop off and walk to check-in |
| Best value | Off-airport Park & Ride | Typically 40–60% cheaper than on-airport terminal parking |
| EV charging while you fly | MBW Rapid Charge | Keep your keys + IAPA award + rapid charging included |
| Police-approved security | Any IAPA-accredited option | NCP Flightpath, MBW, APH M&G, Maple T2&T3, and others |
| Flying from Terminal 4 | T4 Park & Ride Zone A | T4 multi-storey closed June 2026 – all parking now at Zone A P&R |
Booking tip: APH pricing data shows that booking six months in advance can save over 60% versus booking the week before departure – average daily rates run around £6 early versus £16 last-minute. Book early even if plans aren’t confirmed. Most APH options allow free cancellation up to a few hours before your arrival time.

Frequently asked questions
Yes – but only at specific car parks. Options that let you keep your keys include Heathrow NCP Flightpath (Park & Ride, IAPA accredited), MBW Rapid Charge (Meet & Greet, IAPA accredited, includes EV charging), and MBW Meet & Greet Terminal 4 (note: T4 multi-storey closed June 2026 – verify availability). All other APH car parks at Heathrow are Meet & Greet services where handing over your keys is part of the process.
Park & Ride: You drive to a designated car park, park your own vehicle, keep your keys, and take a shuttle bus to your terminal. Transfer time is typically 10–20 minutes and it is usually the most cost-effective option. Meet & Greet: You drive directly to your terminal drop-off zone, a professional driver meets you, takes your keys, and parks your car in a secure compound. On return your car is brought back to the terminal. No shuttle required.
Both options are safe when you book through a reputable provider like APH. Keeping your keys guarantees your car doesn’t move from its space. IAPA-accredited Meet & Greet services store vehicles in police-assessed secure compounds with CCTV, controlled access, and regular patrols. APH only partners with fully vetted, professional operators.
MBW Rapid Charge is the standout option for EV drivers. It is a Meet & Greet service where you keep your keys and your vehicle is charged while you travel. It also holds IAPA accreditation – making it one of the few UK airport parking options combining key retention, rapid EV charging, and police-approved security.
From 23 June 2026, the Terminal 4 multi-storey car park has closed as part of Heathrow’s major T4 forecourt redevelopment. All Terminal 4 passenger parking – including Terminal Parking and Meet & Greet – has moved to Zone A of the Terminal 4 Park & Ride car park. Check your booking confirmation for updated instructions and allow extra transfer time.
As early as possible. APH pricing data shows average daily rates rise from around £6 when booked six months ahead to over £16 when booked the week before departure – an increase of more than 160%. Most APH bookings are fully refundable if you cancel a few hours before your arrival time, so there is little downside to booking early.
No. APH Meet & Greet (Terminals 2, 3, and 5) is operated by MBW Parking on APH’s behalf but is a separate product. APH Meet & Greet does not allow key retention. The separately listed MBW Rapid Charge and MBW Meet & Greet Terminal 4 do allow you to keep your keys. Always check the individual product listing on APH.com.
