On arrival at the check in to leave my car the lady wore a friendly smile and was helpful. When we came back from our trip to Newcastle however I had to stand on the bus as there wasn't enough seating. The bus driver was quite sullen when I asked for help to load my case in the caged area on the bus and never even spoke to me. It was a large case and weighed the full 20k and I am not as strong as I used to be because I am 68. This is the first time this has happened so I hope it doesn't occur again. I was a little surprised at the attitude because it has always been a pleasant experience with your company who often have quite sociable drivers. By the way, when I phoned your office to alert you of our return nobody answered the phone and I rang several times.

This is not the first time I have had problems returning to APH from the Gatwick terminals. As before I did all that I was instructed. I phoned through to say I had arrived, went to the correct bus stop only to be met by at least 40 people already waiting for a bus. It was chaos because the bus stops are shared with Purple Parking - there is no clear indication of where to queue for APH and where the queue start and ends. There is no segregation of those waiting for APH and those waiting for Purple Parking. Two Purple Parking buses arrived whilst we were waiting but by the time everyone had moved around to let people on the buses all semblance of who was first in the queue for APH was completely lost. We waited a good fifteen minutes and then when the bus arrived the driver was clearly overwhelmed with the numbers of people and the amount of luggage that needed to be loaded. I felt really sorry for him. We actually left the stop with some people standing ( I didn't think you were allowed to stand in a bus on the motorway!) and others having to wait for the next bus. If we all phoned to say we had arrived and then we all go to the correct bus stop as instructed, why is it that you cannot appreciate/plan for the demand and respond so that there are sufficient buses or a bus of appropriate size to pick up the number of people you know are waiting? I am just unable to understand that - and if you are not able to respond quickly - then what is the point of us phoning through? Your service has become remarkably poorer since the new buses which require people to take their luggage inside have been introduced. Before, the cases went in the side of the bus, the passengers went inside the bus. At the terminal or at APH it was all very organised with the luggage being unloaded and people simply selecting their cases having exited the bus. Now it is a complete bun-fight with people unable to exit the bus because of others trying to get their luggage off, and/or having to struggle with getting luggage off of high shelves and negotiate around luggage and people who are getting off at a different terminal. Its terrible. The buses are simply not big enough and there is too much for the driver to cope with to make it work easily. We had taken only 2 hours to fly from Croatia in relative comfort and then had to endure a very uncomfortable and stressful overall journey of some 40 minutes in all just to get a bus back to APH. Goodness knows how long it would have taken us if we had not been able to get onto the first bus! We have used APH many times but this is not the first time the return journey to APH has blighted an otherwise good holiday experience - and as I said above, it has certainly got worse since the introduction of the smaller 'everyone and everything inside' buses. I will certainly not be looking to use APH again.

I would just like to add an observation regarding price. When we were first considering a weekend away, which was two months in advance, I looked at prices for parking just out of interest. When we had finalised the trip and I then looked at booking the parking with just two weeks to go, the price had doubled from just £23 to £46.

Directions

From the M23: Exit at Junction 10 (DO NOT take the Junction 9 exit to Gatwick). Turn onto the A264 signposted to East Grinstead and follow this road to the roundabout. Take the second exit staying on the A264. Carry on to the second roundabout; take the second exit keeping the Dukes Head Restaurant to your right. Carry on for three quarters of a mile until you see the large Shell Petrol Station on the right. Turn into the petrol station forecourt and APH’s entrance is clearly signposted.
