Park Mark Safer Parking Award – Why It’s So Important

We work only with car parks and parking operators that we know provide secure parking.

The Park Mark Safer Parking Scheme is a Police Crime Prevention Initiative designed to reduce both crime and the fear of crime in car parks across the UK. The Park Mark Safer Parking Award is given only to car parks that meet certain standards of security, maintenance and management, so it is wise to look out for this accreditation when looking at parking options.

APH are proud to support the Park Mark Safer Parking Scheme and our Leeds Bradford Airport parking products are holders of the Park Mark Safer Parking Award.

Leeds Bradford Airport Car Parks Reviews

Terminals

Leeds Bradford is a single terminal airport, so there’s no need to worry about checking which terminal you are flying from. We say you can’t go wrong with booking Sentinel Secure Airport Parking, which offers Park Mark Safer Parking just a two-minute shuttle bus ride from the terminal entrance.

You can find more information on facilities at the terminal with the help of our handy guides, such as how much change you’ll need for baggage trolleys, how to find free WiFi and where to eat and drink before you fly.

History of Leeds Bradford Airport

Leeds and Bradford Municipal Aerodrome, also known as Yeadon Aerodrome, opened on 17 October 1931, and operated mostly as an aviation club and training centre. Scheduled flights began in 1935, initially to Newcastle, Edinburgh, Blackpool, and the Isle of Man, and the first terminal building opened in 1936.

During the second world war, the aerodrome was used by a nearby aircraft factory (which was camouflaged), to deliver planes to the war effort. The aerodrome returned to civilian use in 1947 and in the 1950s and 60s, new routes were added including Belfast, Dusseldorf, and Dublin.

In the 1980s, the runway was extended over the A658, with a tunnel constructed for the road to run underneath. The first transatlantic flights took off in 1984 and the first chartered Concorde flight landed at Leeds Bradford in 1986. In 1994, the airport went open all hours and passenger traffic grew from 1.2 million a year in 1997 to 2.9 million in 2007.

In 2014, the airport was crowned Best UK Airport by the Travel Weekly Globe Awards.

Passenger traffic peaked in 2018 at just over four million and in 2019, plans were drawn up to expand the terminal with additional gates, additional seating and expanded baggage reclaim and immigration facilities.

New routes to destinations in Romania and Poland were added in 2022, when TUI and Wizzair transferred their flights from Doncaster Sheffield Airport, which closed in November of that year.

Terminals

Leeds Bradford Airport has one terminal with two air bridges and 24 aircraft stands. There are two check-in halls, both on the ground floor; Hall B is for Jet2 flights and Hall A for all other airlines.
Terminals.

The departures area is up on the first floor, after security. Here there are shops, cafes and bars, seating areas and a special assistance desk.

If you are travelling to the airport by car, it is a good idea to book your airport parking in advance.

Flights from Leeds Bradford go to multiple destinations across Europe with airlines including:

  • Aer Lingus
  • Aurigny
  • BH Air
  • Balkan Holidays
  • easyJet
  • Flybe
  • Jet2
  • KLM
  • Ryanair
  • TUI
  • Wizz

Check-in

Check-in Hall A is at the left end of the concourse, on the ground floor, with check-in desks numbering A1 to A17 serving all airlines except Jet2. Check-in Hall B has a separate entrance on the right-hand side of the terminal building, with check-in desks numbering B40 to B55 serving Jet2 flights.

Follow the instructions on the documentation from your airline for how and when to check in for your fight. Check your passport – and those of everyone else in your travelling party – is valid and up to date in advance of travel. Some countries require passport validity to be a minimum of six months, but all countries have different requirements. You can refer to the government foreign travel advice as well as advice from your airline.

It is recommended that you check in and are ready to proceed through security at least two hours prior to your scheduled departure time. Allow extra time if you require special assistance or have oversized luggage or pets traveling with you.

If you have already checked in online before arriving at the airport and have only hand luggage, you can head straight to security and the departures lounge. Boarding passes may be printed or mobile.

If you have already checked in online but have bags to go in the hold, then you must first go to the bag drop area. The bag drop area for Jet2 is in check-in Hall B. The self-bag drop area for Flybe and Ryanair is in check-in Hall A. When using the self-bag drop, simply follow the on-screen instructions on the self-bag drop machines. Once your bag has been weighed, a baggage tag will be automatically printed, which you need to attach to your bags before placing them on the baggage belt.

Double check hand luggage restrictions at home before you pack.
