Park Mark Safer Parking Award – Why It’s So Important

Officially, it might be the ‘quietest’ of all terminals, but with 10million holiday-hungry travellers and time-starved business passengers passing through, there’s still plenty of profit to be made by rogue operators looking to capture your custom.

Booking parking at prices that seem too good to be true will usually end up being just that. But, using the Park Mark Safer Parking Award can help travellers avoid the rogues and secure safe, legitimate parking for their vehicle.

This police-approved scheme can help ensure your car is parked in a safe, security-protected facility by legitimate parking firms – rather than being abandoned on waste ground, mean city streets or unguarded public car parks.

As a Police Crime Prevention Initiative, the Park Mark Safer Parking Award is designed to help cut the instances of actual crime or the fear of it in car parks across the UK as a whole – including airports.

APH is a long-time supporter of the Park Mark Safer Parking Award and its objective to ensure safe and legitimate Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 parking for all travellers.

Heathrow Terminal 4 Parking Reviews

The Park Mark Safer Parking Award provides vital information to travellers flying from Heathrow’s Terminal 4, but nothing can be more revealing about how a company operates than its customer reviews.

This is why we work with independent review aggregator, Trustpilot. Helping to offer complete transparency with genuine, unfettered customer reviews at the point of purchase.

These reviews – available for every customer to see – provide a genuine insight into the service offered. All reviews are collected and verified by Trustpilot without contact from either the parking provider or APH as a retailer or operator.

Here at APH we always strive to offer fair prices for the parking products we provide, but that doesn’t mean we can’t sweeten the deal a little with some cash-saving tips to help savvy travellers further cut the amount they’ll pay for the likes of Edward Lloyd Meet & Greet Parking.

Take a look through these money-saving tips from APH that really can put a dent in the amount you’ll be asked to pay for parking at Heathrow Airport Terminal 4.

Book early to save on your Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 parking

Along with a saving of at least 10 per cent from joining our digital mailing list, smart travellers have another option to keep cash in pocket when booking their airport parking at Heathrow Airport Terminal 4.

As you’ll have noticed, prices for parking are not constant, with fluctuations occurring throughout the year. Times of high demand, such as school holidays and the festive period, will see costs increase – but that doesn’t mean you have to pay the full premium.

In fact, APH can help cut the cost of your parking whenever you plan to travel. All you’ll need to do is plan in advance. Here’s how it works.

The data we have on pricing trends allows us to create a schedule across the year revealing when it’s typically cheapest to buy your parking from operators such as Blue Circle Meet & Greet.

For example, using our price analysis, we can see a booking placed six months before flying could slash more than 45 per cent when compared with a Heathrow Terminal 4 parking reservation secured a week before departure.

Looking at that in terms of hard cash, the benefits are plain to see with a week’s parking at Heathrow Terminal 4 potentially costing from around £131 if purchased seven days before departure – compared with just £71 for a reservation placed six months ahead of departure day.

The graph below shows the average savings that could be made when booking parking at Heathrow Airport Terminal 4. Take a look and pick the perfect time to book and bag the best deals.

Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 Guide

History of Heathrow Airport Terminal 4

Located at the southern end of Heathrow away from the three other terminals, Terminal 4 was designed to facilitate point-to-point flights, rather than connecting services. It was opened by HRH Prince Charles and Princess Diana on 1st April 1986.

With short distances between the check-in and security areas and the boarding gates, the terminal’s layout was originally geared towards short-haul business travellers, but it soon became the designated home for British Airways, including their long-haul flights. This created problems for passengers that had to transfer to other terminals by bus – with their luggage transported by van – and for flight services utilising the larger 400-capacity Boeing 747 aircraft, for which the gate seating areas were not big enough.

Most British Airways flights were transferred to the brand-new Terminal 5 when it opened in 2008.

From 2009, Terminal 4 underwent a series of major renovations, resulting in an upgraded departure forecourt, improved security area, extended check-in hall and new airline lounges. The upgrade enabled it to accommodate over 40 airlines and become the new base for the SkyTeam alliance, founded in 2000 by Air France, Delta, Korean Airlines and Aeromexico, who were later joined by KLM, Continental and Northwest Airlines.

Two new stands added in 2009 allowed the terminal to service Airbus A380 services.

Although Terminal 4 was closed during the Covid-19 pandemic, it re-opened in June 2022 to welcome back airlines including Etihad, Malaysian, Qatar, China Eastern and Vietnam.

Connecting to other terminals

Heathrow has four operating terminals: Terminal 2, Terminal 3, Terminal 4 and Terminal 5.

Terminal 4 is connected to Terminals 2 and 3 by rail via the Elizabeth Line and Heathrow Express, and also by London Underground Piccadilly Line. Although you need to obtain a ticket or use a Transport for London Oyster card or a contactless payment method to access the platforms, you will not be charged for journeys between the terminals.

Allow around 20 minutes to travel between Terminal 4 and Terminal 2 or 3.

To access Terminal 5 from Terminal 4, you can use the London Underground and change trains at Hatton Cross. Alternatively, take the Elizabeth Line or Heathrow Express from Terminal 4 railway station and change trains at Heathrow Central next to Terminals 2 and 3.

Allow around 30 minutes to transfer between Terminal 4 and Terminal 5.

Always check which terminal you are flying from with your airline or travel agent before making any travel or parking arrangements.

Check-in

The check-in area in Terminal 4 is on level 2. Security and the departures hall are on the same level.

Recommended check-in times are as follows:

International flights three hours prior to departure.

European flights two hours prior to departure.

Domestic flights one-and-a-half hours prior to departure.

There are self-service check-in kiosks for airlines that offer self-service check-in. If you have already checked in online, once you have arrived at Terminal 4 you can proceed straight to security if you have no checked bags. If you have bags to go in the hold, head first to the bag drop point for your airline, before following the signs to Departures.

Main travel connections

National Express services use stops 13 and 14 outside the arrivals hall and offers free WiFi, leather reclining seats and air conditioning.

Megabus offers free WiFi, charging points, extra leg room and toilets on board.

RailAir connects Heathrow with Guildford, Reading and Woking railway stations.

The Airline (Oxford Bus Company) operates 24 hours between Heathrow and Oxford and also serves Gatwick and High Wycombe.

Most local buses into London are run by Transport for London. Payment is by Oyster Card, Visitor Oyster Card, Day Travelcard or a contactless method.

For other bus and coach routes, check Traveline.

By rail

There are several ways of getting to and from Heathrow Terminal 4 by rail.

The Elizabeth Line, which opened in 2022, serves all four terminals at Heathrow including Terminal 4. The line stops at multiple destinations across London and also connects to Essex and Reading. The journey time from Paddington Station to Terminal 4 is approximately 40 minutes.

The Heathrow Express links Paddington Station with Heathrow Central, from where you can change to a free transfer train to Terminal 4. The Heathrow Express departs every 15 minutes and the journey time is approximately 15 minutes.

London Underground’s Piccadilly Line runs between central London and Terminal 4. Heathrow’s stations are all in Travelcard Zone 6 and the journey time from central London is approximately 50 minutes.

Special assistance and disabled facilities

Special Assistance

Special assistance must be booked with your airline, tour operator or travel agent at least 48 hours prior to travel – it’s best to do this at the same time as you book your flight, if possible. Let them know if you intend to take your own mobility devices, such as a wheelchair or scooter, as they will need to check the specifications.

When you book assistance in advance, you should receive instructions as to when to arrive at the terminal. As a rule, however, plan to arrive around three hours prior to your scheduled flight departure.

Once at Terminal 4, you’ll find help points in the airport car parks and on the forecourt outside the entrance to the building. You can use these help points to request assistance. Or call 020 8757 2700 to arrange help from your vehicle or drop-off location.

Within the Terminal 4 building, you’ll find the special assistance reception in the check-in area, to the left of WHSmith and the Excess Baggage Company. Once through security, there is an additional seating area behind World Duty-Free, to the left of Costa.

Disabled parking

Blue Badge spaces are available in the Terminal 4 Short Stay and Long Stay car parks. In the Short Stay car park, these are located close to the access route to the terminal. In the Long Stay car park, they are near the transfer bus stop or the car park office. The transfer buses between the Long Stay car park and the terminal are wheelchair friendly.

Alternatively, select from a range of Meet & Greet parking services, including evParkGiant, which will charge your electric vehicle for you while you are away.

Note that the roads around Heathrow do not operate the Blue Badge scheme and any unattended vehicles will be towed away.

Dedicated seating

There is dedicated seating within the special assistance areas before and after security. Before security, this is on level 2, near to WH Smith. Once through security, the additional seating is behind World Duty-Free.

There is also reserved seating within the general seating areas in Terminal 4. These are marked by signs and generally offer:

·      low-level flight information screens

·      an induction loop

·      arms on both sides of seats

·      space for wheelchair users

Toilets

Most toilet facilities in Terminal 4 include a unisex, wheelchair-accessible toilet. Some of these are located within the ladies and men’s toilets.

Changing Places

There is Changing Places facility in the arrivals hall, opposite the escalators to the London Underground station. Facilities include a height-adjustable, adult-sized changing bench, hoist, shower and non-slip floors.

Hidden disabilities

Sunflower lanyards are available at the assistance reception desk in the check-in area. Heathrow’s airport staff are trained to recognise the sunflower lanyard as a sign that a passenger has a hidden disability and may need additional support as they pass through the terminal.

Family facilities

Heathrow Terminal 4 provides various family-friendly facilities including a play area, baby-change rooms and a click-and-collect baby milk service.

Security

When travelling with an infant, you are allowed to take through security enough baby food, sterilised water, prepared baby milk and expressed breast milk (up to two litres) for your total journey. Expressed breast milk may also be taken through security even if you are travelling without your infant but this must not be frozen and has to be carried in hand luggage. Any additional liquids must be packed in your checked-in luggage.

Baby changing

Just look for the Babycare symbol and you’ll find baby-changing facilities before and after security in all Heathrow terminals, mostly next to the toilets.

Click-and-collect baby milk

Heathrow offers a collects service for baby milk and baby food products, which means you can order baby products in advance to collect from the Boots store after you have passed through security.

Pushchairs

If you are travelling with a pushchair or buggy, you can usually take it right up to the gate when you board your flight. Please check with your airline so they can accept the type of pushchair you have.

Play areas
