APH Compares Visa Requirements for Top Destinations in 2016

According to a recent report from ABTA, 18 per-cent of the population say they will travel to a country they have never been to before in 2016*. To help British travellers prepare for their holidays, Airport Parking & Hotels (APH) has created a guide comparing visa requirements for ABTA’s top destinations to visit in 2016*.

Abu Dhabi, UAE
VISA REQUIRED? COST VALIDITY STIPULATIONS
  • Visa required
  • Tourist visa:
    Free on arrival
  • Multiple entry visa for cruise passengers:
    £37 (AED 200)
  • Valid for six months for visits of up to 30 days
  • Travellers will be issued with a free-of-charge visit visa upon entry to Abu Dhabi
  • Travellers must carry a valid passport that will not expire within six months of their arrival date
  • Travellers flying with Etihad Airways may have their visa arranged by the airline upon request
  • If travelling through a travel agency, the agency may arrange a visa for the traveller


Canada
VISA REQUIRED? COST VALIDITY STIPULATIONS
  • No visa required until 15 March 2016
  • Starting 15 March 2016, travellers who fly to or transit through Canada will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)
  • eTA:
    £3 ($7 CAD)
  • Up to five years
  • Travellers with dual British-Canadian nationality won’t need to apply for an eTA
  • The Canadian government strongly advises all dual nationals to enter Canada using a valid Canadian passport
  • Travellers will need proof of enough funds to support their stay even if staying with family or friends
  • Traveller arriving to Canada via land or sea will not need an eTA to enter Canada
  • A travellers’ passport must be valid for the duration of stay


China
VISA REQUIRED? COST VALIDITY STIPULATIONS
  • A Tourist Visa is required is required for mainland China (including Hainan Island)
  • No visa required for visits to Hong Kong or Macao
  • Single entry:
    £20 ($30)
  • Double entry:
    £31 ($45)
  • Multiple entries for six months:
    £41 ($60)
  • Multiple entries for 12 months or more:
    £62 ($90)
  • Express service to process visa in 2-3 days:
    Additional fee of £13 ($20) per visa
  • Rush service to process visa in one day (only available in extreme emergencies): Additional fee of £20 ($30) per visa
  • 6 – 12 months+ depending on visa type
  • If a traveller visits Hong Kong from mainland China and wishes to return, they must have a visa that allows a second entry into China
  • A travellers’ passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of visa application
  • A recent passport photo is required along with documents proving residence during stay
  • A traveller should provide a photocopy of their previous passport data page along with photocopies of a previous Chinese visa if applicable
  • A traveller must register their place of residence with the local Public Security Bureau within 24 hours of arrival to China


France

Hawaii, USA
VISA REQUIRED? COST VALIDITY STIPULATIONS
  • The US Visa Waiver Programme (VWP) allows most British Citizen passport holders to visit the US for up to 90 days without a visa
  • Travellers will still need to apply for an Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) at least 72 hours before travel
  • £10 ($14)
  • Valid for two years for visits of up to 90 days
  • An Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) must be completed prior to travel
  • Travellers must hold a passport valid for at least six months from the date they enter the US
  • Travellers won’t qualify for entry to the USA under the VWP and will need to apply for a visa from the nearest US Embassy or Consulate, if:
    • Travellers hold a British passport that described their nationality as something other than ‘British Citizen’
    • A travellers’ passport has been extended by 12 months under exceptional measures put in place in mid 2014
    • A travellers’ passport doesn’t include certain security features such a computer-readable pages
    • A traveller has been arrested for certain crimes, even if it didn’t result in a criminal conviction
    • A traveller is a dual national of Iran, Iraq, Sudan, or Syria
    • A traveller has travelled to Iran, Iraq, Sudan or Syria since March 2011
  • From 1 April 2016, all travellers entering the US under the VWP will need an ePassport
  • Emergency Travel Documents (ETD) are not valid for entry into the US under the VWP


Iceland

Iran
VISA REQUIRED? COST VALIDITY STIPULATIONS
  • Tourist Visa required
  • Costs can vary for a visa permit depending on source
  • Visa stamp fee:
    £135 (€180)
  • 30 days
  • The duration of the visa is at the discretion of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs but visa extensions may be applied for at the Aliens Office in Tehran
  • Visas should be applied for well in advance as the process can be long and unpredictable
  • A visa permit must first be applied for which can only be issued by the Foreign Ministry in Iran
  • A visa permit must then be taken to the Iranian Consulate to apply for the visa
  • Passports must be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date a visa application is submitted
  • Women and girls over nine-years-old must wear a headscarf in their visa application photos
  • Iranian visas aren’t required for entry to Kish Island where travellers can stay for up to 14 days without a visa
  • If a travellers’ passport contains an Israeli stamp or stamps from other countries sharing a border with Iran, entry to Iran may be refused
  • If a traveller is related or married to an Iranian they may need to enter and leave Iran using Iranian travel documents


Naples and Apulia, Italy

  • Travellers must not work while in Australia but may undertake business visitor activities
  • Travellers must be free from tuberculosis
  • Travellers must not have any criminal convictions for which they have been sentenced for a total combined period of 12 months of more, whether or not the sentence/s were served
  • Electronic Travel Authority (ETA)

Sri Lanka
