Dubai… New Year strikes at 8PM GMT

The place to be: The Meydan Racetrack Anyone lucky enough to have tickets to the Meydan Racetrack will be treated to a night of Dubai excess as they welcome in 2015 with live performances from the likes of Pharrell Williams, Busta Rhymes, Paul Oakenfold, Dimitri Vegas and Seb Fontaine. Where to watch the celebrations: If you’re in the area and don’t have a ticket to the Meydan gig, then head to Downtown Dubai, where crowds of locals and visitors alike will gather to greet the New Year. Russia… New Year strikes 9PM GMT

The place to be: Red Square, Moscow Join the likes of Vladimir Putin and thousands of Muscovites in the cold of Red Square as Russians forget their troubles and welcome 2015. It’s all about the fireworks and with the pyrotechnics played out to the backdrop of the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum and Saint Basil’s Cathedral, you’ll need to look hard for a setting as iconic as Red Square.

Where to watch: In Moscow with nowhere to go? Then wrap up warm to beat the sub-zero temps and head to Red Square for a riotous night of celebrations, or for those who fancy more civilised felicitations, simply make your way to the Moskya River to bag yourself a more secluded spot to take in the show.

T-rouble in Russia is good news for you: The new year is set to be a great time for Brits heading to Moscow, with the tumbling value of the rouble pushing flights as low as £50.00 return. Along with flights, five-star hotels that usually cost £300 a night are slashing their prices – with a room in the Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya available for around £50 in February. Food and drink will also be cheap, with the rouble losing around half its value in a year. Book your 2015 NYE trip now.

London when it was free: image credit

The place to be: At home
The London event has been made all-ticket this year – for safety reasons, apparently. It’s sold out, so a warm seat in front of your computer might be the best option – but…

Best places to watch for free: If you really must head into London...

Primrose Hill
Nearest tube station:
Chalk Farm
Primrose Hill offers a skyline panning from Canary Wharf through the City and Westminster. It’s the closest hill to the action.

Alexandra Palace
Nearest tube station:
Wood Green
Views of the main event will be restricted, but you’ll get a great taster of private displays around the capital.

Vauxhall Bridge
Nearest tube station:
Vauxhall or Pimlico
You’ll need to turn up early and hope the police aren’t moving people along… otherwise a great view is to be had.

Nearest tube station:
Getting close to the ‘ticket’ zone, so crowds will be heavy. Best for six-footers to see over the throng.

Hampstead Heath
Nearest tube:
Hampstead Heath
Choose Parliament Hill for the best vantage point. The view of the city is excellent even if the fireworks will be far away.

Tower Bridge
Nearest tube station: Mansion House
See if you can beat the tourists to bag a prime view of the fireworks. Don’t expect to stroll on and off at a whim!
