Wi-Fi speeds at London airports fall far behind European competitors with Gatwick offering the slowest connection speeds of all the capital’s terminals, according to new testing from Find the full results here

Based on a combined package of speed and free access time, London City offers the best proposition with 4.0Mbps with unlimited use, while passengers travelling from Stansted enjoy super-fast speeds of 8.1Mbps, but just one hour of free access.

With speeds of just 0.5Mbps, super-modern airport Gatwick offers passengers the equivalent of a ‘dial-up’ connection – which severely limits the amount of surfing made possible in the 90-minute period of free access.

There’s good news for travellers killing time before flights from Heathrow, the report claims the airport’s operators have axed restrictions on free Wi-Fi and introduced unlimited access. However, with speeds peak speeds of just 1.0Mbps, the extra time will certainly be welcome.

The report also revealed that London’s airports all offer a dismal service compared with European counterparts, where many have speeds of in excess of 50Mbps.
