With festive travellers flying from Heathrow facing train delays and cancellations, here’s the information you’ll need to make the check-in desk on time.
With the yearly batch of Christmas railway engineering works spread across the festive period, disruptions come as no surprise. However this year sees many Heathrow rail users completely marooned.
What’s the panic: Due to planned Network Rail improvement work, there will be no Heathrow Express services running from the 24th December to the 29th December.
There will also be no Heathrow Connect service running from the 24th to the 31st of December.
How can I beat the cancellations: See below where we’ve compared rail, taxis and airport parking as ways to reach the airport.
Getting to Heathrow Airport – Christmas 2016
Here we look at the options open to the millions of travellers who’ll be flying from Heathrow over the festive period.
A busy Heathrow terminal
With no replacement service planned, it seems transport options to the UK’s busiest airport (nearly 6 million passengers used Heathrow in December last year) are limited. We’ve singled out a few options for you to compare between Christmas and the New Year.
Airport parking options at Heathrow Airport revealed
If you’re swapping from the rails to airport parking for the first time, here’s your instant guide to what’s on offer and what will work for you.
Off-airport parking… park and ride value
This covers fully manned car parks that are located at secure sites near the airport. Simply drive to the car park, leave your keys at reception and jump on a free shuttle bus to the airport terminal. Transfer times are usually no more than 20 minutes. Your car will be parked in a safe and secure compound with 24-hour security patrols. Many of the secured off-airport car parks we work with are holders of the police-approved Park Mark® Safer Parking Award.
Best for – Price: The car parks will typically offer the best prices. The car parks operate when you need them, so make a great solution for all types of trips.
On-airport parking… fast and efficient
These facilities are usually located within the airport complex, with transfers typically taking less than five minutes. Many are within walking distance of the terminal. Along with the convenience of location, most offer the ease of self-park operation – meaning you keep your keys.
Best for – Convenience: On-airport car parks offer parking with minimal transfer times to the terminal. Great for trips where you’re running to a tight schedule and want to save as much time as possible. Booking in advance through APH will also slash the price compared with turn up and park rates on the day of travel.
Meet and greet… the ultimate airport parking
Perfect for anyone who wants to make their airport parking as fast and pain-free as possible. Simply drive to the airport, where you’ll be met by a chauffeur who’ll transfer your car to a secure compound – while you head to the check-in desk. On your return, your car will be ready and waiting for you to drive away.
Best for – Fast, stress-free parking: Meet and greet valet parking provides the ultimate airport parking experience. From passengers travelling with kids or bulky luggage, to those who simply want to enjoy the luxury of arrive-and-fly air travel – meet and greet is the service to choose.
