Using data from around 5,000 motorists who booked airport parking over the 2015 festive season, Airport Parking and Hotels Ltd (APH.com) has compiled a list of the top winter travel destinations based on the customer’s colour of car.

Analysing booking data consisting of car colour and country of destination, APH.com has created a colour-coded map of the world revealing where its customers are most likely to head over the New Year and beyond, according to the shade of their daily transport.

Combining this with the top 10 car colours sold in the UK during 2016, it seems that Brits with silver cars (the country’s top-selling colour) will be crossing the pond to the USA – and Orlando in particular – for a spot of winter relief. Tenerife, France and Switzerland are also on the silver car hit-list, suggesting these drivers value their skiing as well as winter sun.

Perhaps in a nod to the contribution that EU workers have made to the UK’s economy, APH.com’s data reveals that Poland features at no.7 in the silver-car destination list. The fact that the eastern European country also appears as a favoured destination for 10 out of the top 14 car colours, would appear to highlight the strength of its community in the UK.

The data also reveals that despite its rather ‘bland’ image, motorists with beige cars are anything but, when it comes to winter travels; Munich takes their top spot, while other destinations include the likes of Goa, Barcelona and Egypt.

Along with using the data to show the most-popular destinations for individual car colours, APH.com has also crunched the data to create a tool that can dynamically pick the ideal destination for you and your partner – as dictated by the shade of both vehicles. Find yours here…

Follow our airport parking comparison guide and you’ll find the perfect solution for your trip…

Off-airport parking… park and ride value

This covers fully manned car parks that are located at secure sites near the airport. Simply drive to the car park, leave your keys at reception and jump on a free shuttle bus to the airport terminal. Transfer times are usually no more than 20 minutes. Your car will be parked in a safe and secure compound with 24-hour security patrols. Many of the secured off-airport car parks we work with are holders of the police-approved Park Mark® Safer Parking Award.

Best for – Price: The car parks will typically offer the best prices. The car parks operate when you need them, so make a great solution for all types of trips.

On-airport parking… fast and efficient

These facilities are usually located within the airport complex, with transfers typically taking less than five minutes. Many are within walking distance of the terminal. Along with the convenience of location, most offer the ease of self-park operation – meaning you keep your keys.

Best for – Convenience: On-airport car parks offer parking with minimal transfer times to the terminal. Great for trips where you’re running to a tight schedule and want to save as much time as possible. Booking in advance through APH will also slash the price compared with turn up and park rates on the day of travel.

Meet and greet… the ultimate airport parking

Perfect for anyone who wants to make their airport parking as fast and pain-free as possible. Simply drive to the airport, where you’ll be met by a chauffeur who’ll transfer your car to a secure compound – while you head to the check-in desk. On your return, your car will be ready and waiting for you to drive away.

Best for – Fast, stress-free parking: Meet and greet valet parking provides the ultimate airport parking experience. From passengers travelling with kids or bulky luggage, to those who simply want to enjoy the luxury of arrive-and-fly air travel – meet and greet is the service to choose.
