How much do you use your phone while abroad? Sending texts, making calls and using mobile internet can be a costly pastime when on holiday.
So we’ve lined-up the best deals from the biggest networks so you don’t get hit with ‘bill shock’ when you return home.
EU roaming charges are being scrapped?
The European Union has voted to completely remove roaming charges by June 2017, so (in theory) there’ll be no extra cost for using your smartphone in EU countries.
However, for the moment charges still apply but costs have been rapidly reduced in recent times, costing as little as 3p per minute to make a call between EU countries.
Most networks offer their own add-on packages, to help reduce the amount you’ll pay for using your phone abroad. These are often one-off costs that entitle you to a set amount of minutes, texts and data overseas.
With still a few months before the scrappage comes into play, we’ve lined up some of the best deals offered by UK mobile networks, so you don’t get overcharged while you enjoy your holiday.
Below are the five top networks and their data roaming deals.
Both Three and Vodafone allow you to use your normal at-home allowance of calls, texts and data without incurring any extra charges unless you go over your contracted limits. Please check the list of countries this applied to on your networks website.
|EE||£4 per day||500mb||Unlimited||Unlimited|
|O2||£1.99 per day||Unlimited||120||120|
|Virgin Media||Up to £5||Up to 250mb||From 4p per m||from 1p per text|
*You can use your at-home calls, texts and minutes without incurring additional charges – check with your network operator for costs if you exceed your contracted data etc.
