Number plate recognition failed on entry so had to talk to staff on entry and exit. Park quite a long drive from airport terminal. If I had not pre booked the cost would have risen 2.5 times, and I was really shocked by the cost for anyone who had not pre booked.
For a lone lady traveller arriving at the Long Stay in the dark, the area can feel intimidating as there is no employee presence and in my experience, no other travellers have alighted at the same stop as me whenever I have used the facility. It pays to make detailed notes of where you have parked your vehicle in order to avoid having to walk a long way. Another minus point is that I found the numbering indistinct in the dark and perhaps could benefit from being improved. I do not know how a traveller would summon assistance in the event of an emergency other than having to find the telephone number of the car park and telephone that.
A very good experience all around. The arrival and departure processes were simple. Only one thing which could have been better (and this was nothing to do with APH) was that the bus stop near where we parked at Stansted long stay car park was marked "N" - easy to remember - but on returning to the long stay car park it became apparent that there were two "N" stops. Deciding which one to stop at was pure guesswork.
We were waiting far too long for a transfer bus back to the car park after our holiday. 3 mid stay buses had been and gone before a long term bus arrived. We then dropped airport staff off before we went anywhere near the car park. In all it took nearly an hour from the airport to the car - far too long.
Signage was confusing, we needed zone N but signs went from A-K then P-Q. Several of the zones were flagged as closed when in fact they were open. This was a bit confusing. Buses were prompt and driver helpful calling out the stops.
The bus driver taking us back to the Long stay car park was very helpful. He managed to squeeze all the passengers on to the bus, when a bigger bus was required. He also called out all the stops and did not rush passengers who were disembarking.
Good position car park. It was a pleasure to be able to depart quickly from the car park and not be stopped when exiting and asked to pay an extortionate payment which we have experienced at several airports due to inefficient number plate recognition.
Driver did not speak at all-I had to ask where to get the bus on the return journey and he pointed but still did not speak. The transfer is a lot longer than expected as we went to the short stay car park first. Not a very pleasant first time experience.
When following the signs for the Long Term Car Park, don't panic when you find yourself going back onto the motorway. It seems counter intuitive but then shortly the signs reappear and you get there. Otherwise everything else is pretty seamless.
The only down side to our experience was exiting the car park. We inserted the ticket and to our surprise an amount of £234.00 was displayed as payment to exit. We used the help button at the barrier and the staff member was very helpful although he could not find our booking on the system. It was eventually found and to our relief we exited the car park.
