Heathrow Airport (LHR)

about heathrow airport

London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is the world's busiest international airport with 68 million domestic and in-transit passengers in 2007. Heathrow currently has five terminals in service, with terminal 5 which opened in early 2008 being the newest terminal. This terminal serves British Airways passengers and once the migration from other terminals is complete passenger figures are predicted to rise considerably though.

In practice, it is easy to get to Heathrow from the M4 or A4, for terminals 1-3; the M25 for terminals 4 and 5; and the A30 for terminal 4. Why not let APH smooth your journey for you by helping you pre-book your airport parking?

There are several car parking services to choose from, including secure off airport parking at Purple Parking, Reeds Service Park and Purple Parking Business, self-park parking at Parking Express or Business Parking Terminal 4 or, to save time, you can upgrade to one of the Meet and Greet services offered through MBW or Purple Parking. A chauffeur will meet you at the airport and collect your car from you, and then bring your vehicle back to you at the airport on your return.

For a really stress-free start to your journey, you could choose to stay over at one of the many excellent hotels near Heathrow. There is even a special package combining a hotel room with your holiday parking, if you are driving to heathrow airport. From as little as an extra £20, in addition to the normal parking charge, APH can offer you a selection of 3 and 4 star hotels, including the Sheraton, Holiday Inn, Ariel, Thistle, Crowne Plaza and the Renaissance.

It is almost impossible not to spend money at Heathrow. From traditional wax jackets to fine wines and whiskies, to an outlet for the British Museum, there are plenty of shops to suit every taste if not pocket.

Flex your credit card at exclusive designers like Chanel, Dior and Burberry. Browse through Harrods, Hacketts, Hamleys, Nike and many more excellent shops for the sheer pleasure of beautiful things.

If you are feeling peckish and want to make a change from the plentiful coffee shops, bars and fast-food places, try award-winning Giraffe, for family-friendly, global food all day. The tourist or the more traditional should aim for Taste of Britain with its clotted cream, Eccles cakes, and jellied eels; or simply grab a sandwich at Whistlestop and watch the world go by.

To keep out of temptation’s way, why not book an airport lounge through APH instead?

The lounges offered at Heathrow offer you the opportunity to relax, work, have a drink or just catch up with the news.  Choose from either the Penauille Servisair lounges at Terminals 1, 2 and 3 or the Holideck Lounge at Terminal 4.  The Holideck lounge is distinguished by its choice of decks: the Main Deck for families, the Enterprise Deck for the business traveller; the sports lounge Upper Deck, and the Flight Deck, an observatory, providing an exceptional view of the airport.
