Scots Flying Away

2008-06-13

More and more Scots are flying to overseas destinations.

The number of people flying abroad from BAA airports in Scotland increased by 6.7 per cent to 8.7 million in the year up to May 2008.

And soon there will be another 35 routes for them to choose from at Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh airports.

But traffic figures from the Scottish airports are mixed in other areas. At Aberdeen domestic flyers fell by 3.9 per cent - reflecting a UK-wide downward trend.

But numbers leaving Aberdeen for foreign destinations rose by two per cent.

Edinburgh was Scotland’s busiest airport in May with 800,000 passengers.

BAA Scotland spokesman Donald Morrison said: “The bigger picture shows the market in Scotland remains resilient in the face of global pressures with international travel continuing to soar.”
