Luton buses go greener

2008-05-14

If you take an airfield bus to or from your flight at Luton Airport you’ll now be sitting on a more environmentally friendly vehicle.

The airport has bought four new fuel efficient models to replace the gas guzzlers it was previously using - and plans to renew its whole fleet.

Luton’s new COBUS 3000 vehicles feature lightweight aluminium bodies to cut down on fuel bills - and they also prolong vehicle life because aluminium doesn’t rust.

Savings of five litres of diesel per hour - even at the low speeds travelled on airport tarmac - are predicted.

The vehicles also boast wide doors on both sides and easier access for wheelchair users, the elderly and people with pushchairs.

You may also notice the anti-slip flooring and temperature management as you travel from plane to terminal building on the buses.
