Beware of the Additional Costs of Taking Ski Equipment Abroad- AIRPORT PARKING AND HOTELS OUTLINES THE SKI LUGGAGE ALLOWANCE -
As the ski season approaches, Airport Parking and Hotels (APH) is offering skiers information on how to keep the cost of transporting ski equipment to the bare minimum. Snow sport enthusiasts can visit www.aph.com to access the ‘Know Before You Go’ section of the site, which provides travellers with a comparison table of sixteen airlines and the charges for ski equipment in any and excess baggage. It seems it is good news for skiers travelling on the majority of airlines as these include ski and snowboard equipment in the ticket price but there is a limit on one pair of skis and poles and one boot bag per person. However, exceeding the allowance may result in further charges, for example some of the airlines offer a ‘special ski rate’ with an extremely beneficial 3kg supplementary allowance per person given on Emirates, or a 33% discount from the excess charge for those flying with Lufthansa, although you are not allowed to carry the equipment as part of your baggage allowance. Five of the airlines researched; BMI, Easyjet, Lufthansa and Ryanair exclude ski kit from the baggage allowance. Easyjet charge the most for equipment at £23 if you pay at the airport or £15 if you travel with BMI. Baggage allowances vary from carrier to carrier with 15kg on Easyjet and Ryanair increasing to 23kg per bag for up to two bags per person on Continental Airlines. The APH off-airport car parks at Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester provide customers with luggage scales to ensure limits are not surpassed. APH also provides an online one-stop shop for skiers by offering discounted in-resort ski hire, lift passes, winter sport insurance and resort guides. Airport Parking and Hotels Ltd has over 20 years’ experience as a retailer of pre-booked airport parking and travel extras. It offers parking at 18 UK airports, ports and Eurotunnel terminals plus airport hotels packaged with parking, airport lounges, travel insurance, car hire and holiday taxis.
