Travelling to American or the Far East? Travellers should consider investing in a voltage convertor for safe use of their electrical appliances. Airport Parking and Hotels (APH) has put together a table comparing the different voltages in top holiday destinations.
The research found that the biggest differences were found to be in North and South America and the Far East. EU countries and most other countries within Europe have “standardised” the voltage so that there is less variation. This means that it is safer and easier to use electrical items within Europe. Electrical travel adapters are readily available however they do not convert the voltage or frequency which is the most important factor. It is crucial to purchase a voltage transformer or converter to ensure the correct and safe use of some electrical appliances when abroad.
Almost all phones, PDAs, MP3s appliances are able to tolerate different voltages However, if certain appliances such as older hair straighteners and hairdryers could be damaged by a voltage that they are not designed to operate with.
