Don't risk your neck to save a penny!
2009-03-18
Did you know that according to recent claims, very nearly one quarter of UK holidaymakers are considering saving money this year by not bothering to book travel insurance?
Extreme sport holidays are becoming all the rage, so the idea that there are people even considering saving money by not booking holiday or travel insurance tends to bring experts out in a cold sweat.
The traditional adrenaline fuelled holidays like mountain walking or even a spot of light mountaineering are as popular as ever, but walking on glaciers, visiting volcanoes, bungee jumping, paragliding, heli-sking and more are becoming increasing popular. And the last thing you want to do is to attempt anything adventurous without the benefit of adequate holiday insurance. You don't want to think about the cost of hiring a private air ambulance from the nearest airport to the mountain that you fell off, not to mention the cost of the ambulance to take you to the airport.
And the best reason not to think about holiday insurance? Because you have already had it all taken care of well before you leave for your exotic and adventurous holiday. And before you think: “Oh, that doesn't concern me! I am only going to read my book on the beach and take the odd coach tour to look upon the scenery” just remember that no human activity is ever guaranteed 100% safe. Just ask anyone who has ever tried to open a tin of corned beef using the pesky little key.
By the way you could expect to pay between £10,000 to upwards of £50,000 to pay for an air ambulance.
So, be like any good Scout. Be prepared. Have your holiday and travel insurance arranged before you go on holiday. Incidentally, you can arrange your travel insurance through the APH website.
