Icelandair boosts Manchester and Glasgow Services
2010-08-18
Icelandair has announced increased service from Glasgow and Manchester to Iceland and Icelandair’s connecting North American destinations. The increased service will run from 14th September to 26th October 2010 and 12th April to 6th June 2011. It adds a flight every Tuesday to the current autumn schedule from Manchester and Glasgow. The increased service will result in five flights per week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
The flights will operate as a so-called “triangle route” using the following routing: Reykjavik (KEF) – Manchester (MAN) – Glasgow (GLA) – Reykjavik (KEF). The schedule will fit into Icelandair’s “hub and spoke” system, usefully allowing passengers to connect onwards to Icelandair’s North American destinations. The connection times to North America will be short, resulting in flight times comparable or better than competitors, believes Icelandair.
Flights will leave Reykjavik at 08:00 and will reach Manchester at 11:35. Flights will leave Manchester at 12:25, reaching Glasgow at 13:30. Flights will leave Glasgow at 14:20, reaching Reykjavik at 15:40. These times, claim Icelandair, will allow for what it describes as: “short and convenient connections to and from Icelandair’s destinations in the United States and Canada.”
Hjörvar Sæberg Högnason, the general manager for the UK & Ireland, said, “We are pleased to expand our service from Manchester and Glasgow to Iceland and our North American destinations this autumn and next spring, two great times to visit Iceland, especially for those looking to save. This will provide our passengers with increased convenience and flexibility to travel to Iceland to take advantage of the favourable exchange rate, plus increase the options for connecting onwards to fantastic destinations like New York City, Boston, Seattle and more.”
Icelandair has operated services for in excess of 70 years. It flies from the UK to Iceland with connecting service to Boston, Halifax, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York City, Orlando, Seattle and Toronto.
