Gatwick delays over within 5 months

It doesn’t seem like five minutes since people were being advised that there would be delays at Gatwick Airport whilst the airport’s shuttle service was subject to a very welcome £45m upgrade.

And now work has progressed to such an extent that the new carriages for the service have already been lifted into place. Two new more modern trains will be placed in to service to move passengers at Gatwick between the North and South Terminals.

If all goes to plan the service should be up and running within time for the July holiday rush. Project Manager, Ralph Abbott told the BBC: "This is a very delicate operation but the team we have here have lifted these cars all around the world.”

The system that they are replacing was installed in 1987, the new train carriages are built by Bombardier. Until July passengers are advised to allow at least an extra 20 minutes to their journey time between the terminals whilst passenger transfer is still being supplied by the replacement buses.
