WWW.APH.COM OFFERS ONLINE WINTER DRIVING ADVICE TO MOTORISTS WHO ARE HEADING TO THE AIRPORT FOR THEIR WINTER GET AWAY

With weather conditions at their wintry worst early morning travelling by car to the airport long stay car parking can mean travel misery and the holiday coming to an early end. Airport Parking and Hotels (APH) has created a safer driving section on www.aph.com offering advice to holiday makers on how to ensure a safe and trouble-free journey to and from the airport.
Tips for a trouble-free winter trip to the airport:

  • Make sure your car battery is fully charged the night before your journey - check and double check that no interior lights are left on which will drain the battery.
  • When starting up your car in the morning, ensure unnecessary electrics are switched off such as radios, screen heaters and lights.
  • If the engine does not start immediately then leave 30 seconds between attempts to allow the battery to recover.
  • Make sure you keep your screen washer topped up with the correct mixture - this will stop it from freezing up in all but the coldest conditions
  • Allow plenty of time for your journey to the airport including refreshment stops along the way
  • Through the winter months dazzle from the low sun can be a problem so ensure windscreens are free from smears, scratches and dirt which can obscure vision.
  • When choosing a long stay car park consider the ones where you leave your keys behind as these will inevitably have battery booster packs to get your car going should the battery fail while you are away
  • If your budget allows, the best option may be to book an airport hotel and parking package. This means you travel the day before and take all the anxiety out of the journey.

Nick Caunter, Managing Director, APH said: "Many flights are early in the morning meaning very early check-ins. Travellers can be faced with icy windscreens, failing batteries, uncertain road conditions and traffic hold-ups before they even get to the long stay car park that serves the airport. We've added this information to our website to give customers as much helpful advice as possible."

Parking a car at an APH car park not only saves you money but also gives you peace of mind when travelling in winter.

One week's parking at APH Gatwick costs £43.68 and a double room at Swallow Bower Hotel and one week's parking at Manchester costs £51.75.
