APH Resort Guides at a Glance:
Sun Peaks, Canada
Overview
If you’ve been to Whistler, you should give this place a try next. Tons of terrain, excellent facilities, good hotels
and the chance to ski with an Olympic legend. Oh yes, and you’re almost guaranteed great snow.
Terrain
This is the second-biggest ski area in BC, with around 3,700 acres of terrain available. It’s all spread over three mountains -
Tod, Morrisey and Sundance - with 121 trails to choose from.
Recommended run
For more cruisy stuff head over to Mount Morrisey and try CC Riders, which takes you on a gentle jaunt through well-spaced trees.
You’ll find most of the black stuff over on Mt Tod.
Ski-in, ski-out?
Everything here is orientated around the village, so wherever you stay, you can pretty much ski to your door.
Cost of living
Eating out is pretty reasonable here, and there’s a good selection of restaurants all within walking distance of everywhere.
For tasty pizzas that won’t break the bank, try Belle Italia.
Nightlife
If you’re looking to strut your stuff, you’ll find a few places ready and waiting. Mackdaddy’s is always lively,
with a crowd that ranges from baggy jean-wearing boarders to parents who should know better.
Alternative activities
Swap your Alpine skis for a set of skinny Nordic ones. There are 28 kilometres of groomed trails to choose from -
and another 12 km of ungroomed stuff. Failing that, you could have a go at ice skating - and of course, snowshoeing.
Family friendly If you’re looking to leave the kids in capable hands, there’s a playschool that takes youngsters from 18 months onwards, and ski school starts them off at three years-old. Tours are available with Olympic Ski legend Nancy Greene, from 11am every day. She’s excellent fun, and will show you all the sites.
