APH Resort Guides at a Glance:
Solda, Italy

Overview
Tucked away in a valley, close to the famous Stelvio Pass, Solda - or Sulden, as it’s known in Austrian - is smalll but perfectly formed. The South Tyrol used to be part of Austria (the most common language here), so you get all the atmosphere of an Alpine village with fabulous Italian cuisine.

Terrain
There are 11 lifts in Solda and 40km of pistes to play with, spread around three sides of the resort. As well as Solda itself, however, your Ortler Skiarena pass gives you access to 260km of pistes on neighbouring resorts.

Recommended run
Take the cable car up from the top of the village, and you’ll find some excellent high-altitude cruising runs.

Ski-in, ski-out?
Wherever you stay, you’re never more than a 10-minute walk from the slopes.

Cost of living
Expect to pay around £10 a head for dinner with wine.

Nightlife
Forget ruddy-faced apres skiers dancing on tables and think delicious meal followed by beers in cosy bars.

Alternative activities
This place is an ice-climbing Mecca; if heights aren’t your thing, though, there are lots of great snowshoe walks waiting to be explored.

Family friendly
English is spoken at the ski school, and there’s a range of beginner runs to choose from close to the village. Ice skating and tobogganing are great activities that you can all enjoy together.
