APH Resort Guides at a Glance:
Deer Valley, Utah
Overview
This is one of five resorts located within 30-minutes of Park City, and is the most expensive. As with many North American resorts,
the quality of skiing, service and facilities is excellent. Be aware: it is skier-only.
Terrain
There are five peaks to choose from - Bald Eagle Mountain, Little Baldy Peak, Bald Mountain, Flagstaff Mountain and Empire Canyon.
Intermediates have the biggest slice of the action, but the beginner facilities are fantastic - as are the diamond blacks up by Empire.
Recommended run
If you’re up for a challenge take the diamond blacks down from Bald Mountain. You’ll find some nice long cruisy stuff here too.
Ski-in, ski-out?
There’s plenty of ski-in, ski-out accommodation to choose from, but you might want to rent a condominium in town.
Cost of living
Despite being an upscale resort, Deer Valley is surprisingly cheap compared to Europe.
There are lots of on-slope eateries, and a burger and beer will cost you around £5 ($8).
Nightlife
Head into nearby Park City (5-minutes’ drive), and you have plenty of places to eat and drink. For family eating head to Bandits’
Grill and Bar on Main St. Contrary to the Mormon stereotypes, you won’t have a problem getting a beer.
Alternative activities
If you dare, take a bobsleigh ride at Park City Olympic course. Come here in January and take in some arthouse movies at the Sundance Film Festival.
Family friendly
Most definitely. The ski school facilities here are second to none.
You can even get complimentary pagers onto the hill with you, in case you’re worried about losing touch with your little ones.
