History of APH – Airport Parking & Hotels
Airport Parking & Hotels Ltd (APH) has been providing quality airport parking for over thirty years, with a strong commitment to high standards of customer service.
In fact, the family owned firm first started parking cars before Gatwick even had an airport. As far back as 1951, car parking services were set up for business commuters travelling by train to London. In 1958, Gatwick Airport opened and grew rapidly to become a very important departure airport for the developing package holiday market. In 1980 Airport Parking Gatwick, as it was first called, was incorporated and granted planning permission to park up to 3000 cars along with the introduction of a 24 hour reception and coach transfer service.
Overseas travel, and with it the need for airport parking, was becoming increasingly popular, not only from Gatwick but also from other airports. So in 1990 APH began selling parking at other airports around the UK for other parking providers. Adding hotels to the product portfolio in 1996, offering overnight accommodation for customers with early morning flights.
In 1999, the company expanded again with the acquisition of a parking facility with capacity for 1800 vehicles six minutes from Manchester Airport, and then in 2002 a car park at Birmingham was added to the product range; located just 15 minutes from the airport and accommodating up to 2,200 cars. With the addition of a satellite car park at Gatwick, the Group’s own car parking capacity now stands at around 8,000 spaces.
All APH car parks operate in the same hassle-free way. Customers drive into the car park, check in at reception and take the transfer bus or coach to the terminal. Buses or coaches depart every 15 minutes or so, but more frequently if they fill up faster. APH drivers then park the cars, returning them to the reception area just in time for the owner’s return. All they have to do is collect their keys and leave. APH provides a quality service; loading and unloading customers bags from the buses, also providing the use of baggage scales free of charge. Ensuring that cars are kept safe, whilst the customer is away, and that customers’ journeys to and from the airport run as smoothly as possible
Over the years APH has succeeded in providing a comprehensive range of quality products; not only has it become one of the UK’s leading providers of airport parking, it also provides an excellent range of airport hotels and airport lounges. Through partnerships with other providers it also offers travel insurance, car hire, holiday taxis, attraction tickets and most recently pre-paid currency cards. APH continues to grow and add more products to its portfolio – ensuring that it remains a leading supplier in its field. The company’s success has been built on developing long term relationships with customers, suppliers and of course, staff.
