Cardiff Airport
If you are a car driver, it appears that you will have an easier time getting to Cardiff International Airport than those taking public transport. One disenchanted traveller writes, "This seems to be an airport living in the 60's…". That may not be fair to owners TBI plc or its Spanish parent organisation, Abertis Airports.
The airport serves both charter and scheduled airlines. Scheduled airlines include KLM, Eastern Airways, bmibaby and Aer Arann, and charter airlines include Airtours and Thomson.
There are over 2 million passengers a year, more than half using the charter services. A £100m development strategy which includes extending the current terminal and facilities, anticipates an increase in passenger traffic of 400% by 2030. So, travellers can look forward to great improvements.
One immediate benefit of flying from Cardiff International Airport is that, after Glasgow Prestwick, it has the second best weather record in the UK. The airport is 12 miles west of Cardiff City Centre, in Rhoose, just off Junction 33 of the M4. It is located in an area seen as a centre for aviation excellence, according to the Welsh Assembly.
Car drivers also have a choice of parking too. APH can offer a choice of an off-airport and an on-airport car park. However, if you want the peace of mind of knowing your car is secure, then choose between the established Highwayman and Cardiff on Airport. Both have the Safer Parking Park Mark accreditation for security.
There is little to tempt in either shopping or eating at Cardiff International Airport, but at least the Scrum Half Bar reflects the Welsh passion for rugby. Why not let APH reserve a place for you in the Cardiff 51° Lounge instead?
