Aberdeen Airport
Located on the windy north-west coast of Scotland, on the A96 Inverness road, Aberdeen Airport today is the smallest of BAA's seven airports.
The Airport might be lacking in size, but it is the main heliport for the United Kingdom's offshore oil industry. In fact, it is the world's largest commercial heliport, with over 37,000 helicopter movements each year. Nearly 500,000 passengers are transported to and from oilrigs in the North Sea.
The main airport is not doing too badly either. Twenty airlines provide services to forty destinations across Europe.
Aberdeen Airport provided BAA's Scottish operations with its fastest growing passenger figures to around 3.3 million. As with nearly all of the UK's airports, there are plans for significant growth in passenger numbers, including a massive increase in international flights.
Currently, there are five terminals: the main passenger terminal, three for North Sea helicopter operations, and one primarily for oil company charter flights.
The airport is about seven miles from The Granite City - Aberdeen. Also known as the Flower of Scotland, Aberdeen has many wonderful granite buildings which sparkle after it has been raining. Rain has also helped Aberdeen to be a multi-winner of the - Britain in Bloom - competition, with colourful displays all year round.
Aberdeen is not just attractive buildings and pretty flowers, it is a lively, cosmopolitan city with a vibrant nightlife. To sample some of its attractions prior to your flight, book APH's special hotel and car parking package at the Aberdeen Britannia. It is only ten minutes away from the airport. Local attractions include Balmoral, Scotland's Malt Whisky Tour and the Cairngorms. Golfers can choose from 30 courses within easy driving distance.
The Penauille Servisair Lounge serves complimentary snacks and beverages including alcoholic drinks. Shut out the hustle and bustle of the departure lounge, and read, watch TV or simply work.
