If you’ve got a passion for fine wines, champagne and locally sourced food, then it’s time to head for the Cabin. Travellers are offered the guarantee of premium service in a ‘first-class environment’, where they can browse the elegant and eclectic menu over selection of cocktails and craft beers.

Caffe Ritazza

With more than 60 years’ experience of brewing the finest coffee, anyone looking for a shot of the black stuff will find this the perfect refuge from the airport’s hustle and bustle. Grab a table in this American-style diner and enjoy a menu of burgers, pizzas and slow-cooked pulled pork and briskets. Travellers with young kids should look for the family dining booths with their special Flying Hippo games.

Greggs

Best for: Great value grab-and-go snacks
It’s the North East’s favourite baker, so make your way to the airport’s very own store that’s located in the main check-in hall next to International Arrivals. Once there, you’ll find the usual selection of freshly baked savouries and value sandwiches alongside a wide range of sweet treats including muffins and iced buns.

Upper Crust

Best for: Anyone running to a tight schedule
Priding itself on its fresh produce, Upper Crust bakes and fills its baguettes throughout the day – and guarantees a maximum of three hours on display for added freshness. The chain promises a healthy option, too; with no added fat or sugar and no need for preservatives or additives. Find it in the departure lounge.

Can’t believe we had to pay 20 pounds for two glasses of wine. We weren’t aallowed to sit at the window as we were not eating!! When some men came in they were told if they weren’t eating they should go to another bar.
Last time we will visit the Cabin.
