My name is Sarah and I work for APH. I recently visited the 4 star Thistle Hotel near to East Midlands Airport with the Sales & Customer Service team where we put ourselves in the customers’ shoes & experience everything the hotel has to offer.
We stayed overnight at the Thistle, had dinner in their Sherwood Forest themed restaurant, enjoyed the bar area and used the leisure facilities – swimming pool, gym & Jacuzzi. (It’s a tough job!). Experiencing a nights stay at the hotel really lets us see first-hand the features & benefits of the hotels we are selling to our customers.
The exterior of the Thistle East Midlands is modern and as soon as you enter the reception area the feel of the hotel is contemporary. The Thistle has a lot of character throughout the building; whilst being spacious it is also very cosy, the décor is continued throughout the hotel and all rooms are very inviting.
We all stayed in different bedroom types; for example some of my team were allocated a standard double room and some a deluxe king room. The standard double consisted of a double bed, dressing table, chairs & coffee table and the deluxe king room had the same but a king size bed and was a slightly larger room. All included a bath and shower en-suite. The bedrooms on the lower floor are easily accessible for wheelchair users and all rooms come fully equipped with hair dryers, iron/ironing board, tea and coffee making facilities, air-conditioning/ heating, plasma TVs & Wi-Fi for a charge.
As APH offers hotels with airport parking packages, this hotel has a fantastic location close to East Midlands Airport. We took a walk across to see how long it would take & did it in around 3-4 minutes. Although the hotel does not have its own transfer bus available, if customers are unable to walk and require a lift to the airport, the Thistle will arrange and pay for a taxi. For customers simply preferring a taxi, the charge is approximately £5.00
Although the Thistle Hotel is very close to East Midlands Airport, the hotel is sound proofed, so not once did I hear a plane land or take off, and I sometimes forgot there was an airport around. I had a really good night’s sleep!
The Sherwood restaurant has a Robin Hood feel and looks great! It looks very grand with big wooden doorways, even the chairs fit in with the theme, and it has a very cosy feel to it. The menu offered a great variety of food; from pizza or burger and chips, to steaks, lamb shanks or curries and all at really reasonable prices. The hotel has a buffet breakfast which does come at an extra charge, but all the food we ate at the hotel was delicious and the portion sizes were generous.
Overall, the hotel offers great value for money. The sleep quality was 5 out of 5, my experience of the restaurant was excellent, the staff were helpful, attentive and made us all very welcome and of course the location is perfect for the airport. I would definitely stay again!
